Science Problem

Galactic Star Formation, Clusters and X-ray Binaries

Objectives Obtain multiwavelength photometric and spectral data of specific regions for comparison, and calculation of complete spectral energy coverage, from the xray to the radio.

Solution

Use Astroscope to find counterparts to e.g. known micro quasar and display/overlay multi wavelength images and spectra in Aladin, VOspec, SPLAT. Build SED.

Good Points

Data available everywhere, and things continue after you've logged out.

Bad Points

Myspace wasn't refreshing, so we didn't know whether the data had arrived.

Extremely difficult for new users to understand or diagnose plastic problems as they may arise.

VOspec plastic connectivity not working in latest version - assigned new Bugzilla ticket 2067.

Requests

The ability to set the ordering of the Radial and Hyperbolic search results in astroscope, eg, Date, spectral, alphabetic..?

The ability to view a thumbnail of the data in the astroscope search results.

URGENT. The ability to know how many MB (TB?) I am requesting when I click save after selecting some images.

An alert when your your search/download etc has completed (txt, email..?). eg in a save to myspace.

A progress bar for myspace saves would be helpful.

The filenames in myspace are very difficult to understand..eg if you download 2 HST images it isn't clear which is which. Perhaps an option for a Tag at the beginning of the filename?

In astroscope, would like to be able to filter astroscope results on parameters like image type/format.

Would like to be able to open multiple files simultaneously in Aladdin from myspace (with a single 'open/load' command).

A mosaic tool would be very useful.

When viewing a file in Aladdin, more information in the layer name would be useful, rather than PLASTIC~1

Under astroscope services tab: need to sort results column numericaly rather than by ascii. for service column suggestion to link directly to catalog instead of having to go via radial window.
