AstroGrid Science Workshop and RadioNet/AstroGrid workshop for radio data providers
Oxford w/c 4 December 2006
Important Note
This science workshop is of relevance to any and all astronomers at the University of Oxford. Additionally those astronomers who will also be attending the
AstroGrid/ Radionet Workshop (immediately following this - 5-8 Dec 2006) are also welcome to attend
Registration
Please see
AstroGrid Science Workshop and RadioNet?/AstroGrid workshop for radio data providers main page for details of registration, requirements etc.
Science sessions
Sessions will be hands-on, involving demonstrations which you can follow on your laptop followed by breaking into small groups for project work. Radio data providers are welcome to register for these sessions also.
Subject to ammendment depending on number of participants and their interests and projects
F = Fisher Room - plenary sessions where internet access is required
C = Conference Room - second room with internet access available for overspill workgroups
L = Dennis Sciama Lecture Theatre - plenaries where only the presenter needs internet

As
AstroGrid staff will be present for the following data provider sessions, it may be possible to get further support throughout the week.
Science Projects
We will divide into 3-4 groups to work on projects based on science goals. These should be specific problems which can be tackled using AstroGrid. The idea is that each group will decide on a science problem that they would like to work on, and they will be assisted by AstroGrid scientists and developers. The final session will then give each workgroup a chance to demonstrate what they have achieved!
Topics are provisional - please think about what you really want to do
Star formation - identifying candidate SFR (galactic or extra-galactic) based on colours and other properties, spectral information.
Microquasars and pulsars - multi-wavelength properties, time domain
Radio galaxies and their environments: multi-wavelength properties, radio images, redshift maker.
