Examples for Oxford workshop

  • Gemini archive at CADC (service maintained by Canadian VO)
    • In VOExplorer, click on New Smart List
    • Enter Gemini as search term and create a list
    • Select CADC/Gemini and click on Query in the Actions tab on the left.
      • This will start a VOExplorer set up to query the Gemini image archive.
      • Enter an object name or position observed by Gemini (e.g. Virgo A)
    • When some images are returned, you can download them or visualise the FITS files directly if you have Aladin or Gaia.
  • You can combine the results with other data, e.g. go back to VOExplorer and under *Examples - Cone Search" select both 2MASS XSC and PSC
    • Use Query again around the position of Virgo A - increase the search radius to 0.1 deg
    • You can then superimpose the results

  • SKADS Simulated Sky
    • In VOExplorer, create a New Smart List for SKA (as above)
    • Select Build ADQL under Actions

        Where a.agntype=2
      • Click on Validate Edit
      • Choose VOSpace as the location for the Results
        • You will need to have an AstroGrid account and log in
      • Execute the query.
      • When complete, you can download the result or visualise it e.g. in TopCat.
        • This allows you to manipulate columns, display source size etc.
