Demo at University of St Andrews

28 July 2006

In 1 hour we started the Workbench and used AstroScope to find and display spectra and images in VOSpec and Aladin. Many people already use TopCat. Other functions such as the ready-made parameterised workflows for making photometric redshifts etc. and the MERLIN Imager were briefly demonstrated.

Issues raised

  • Astroscope
    • Selection by wavelength and time as well as position
    • Display of wavelength and time as well as spatial coordinates when data are returned
      • As data providers may not give this information there needs to be some way of defaulting to 'all' in either domain.
    • Want to select lightcurves for e.g. AGN variability, stars
      • Does AGN Watch publish to VOs?
      • Extra lightcurves sector along with images, catalogues, spectra?
  • Can we provide Gaia as a compatible tool?
    • Already under development!
  • VOSpec
    • Need to make it easier to see which segments correspond to which named spectra e.g. in order to remove unwanted spectra from the display.
