Support Team Documentation Meeting

20080205 at IoA: 10-16

Agenda

  • I want to go through the beta.astrogrid.org pages - review for content and consistency. Allocate missing sections to complete - see also SciTeamOps20071127
  • look at the worked examples and check the ones we have - and identify which others are required
  • consider the NAM2008 meeting - identify what we should be highlighting on the demo stand.
  • thoughts on the beta vodesktop in action - items to feedback to the developer team
  • other items that you may want to discuss?

Present

Anita, Silvia, Eduardo, Nic, Jonathan, Dugan

Notes

beta doc pages at http://beta.astrogrid.org

Issues:

  • File:
    • the login/logout bit needs to be linked to the main text on this.
    • smartlist needs to be linked to the using voexplorer page (use an anchor tage link to the relevant bit in this page
  • Resource: need to make the links for the sections like Query, Build ADQL, etc to the main help pages for these.
  • All VO Scope: this name will change to [nop]AstroScope in the final release - so Gary to write a script to change references from All VO Scope to AstroScope.
  • Helioscope: nice to show an image being viewed in aladin or a plot in topcat.
  • Using VOScope: In a caveat section: need to note in a caveat that catalogue returns into VO Scope get returned to the local VO Scope - and if they are big can use up a lot of memory and 'bomb' VO scope. (Unlike images/spectra where you get a list of pointers to the data - so smaller files).
  • Query help need link to the ADQL syntax - ie what words you can use. And perhaps a '20 queries' type page (people to send anita example queries).
  • Self tests needs more explanation on what sem of the tests actually are.
  • Python: as we more to the full docs need to split these pages such that the install bit or python is part of the installing 'AstroGrid Desktop Suite' pages
    • JAT will run through the python pages to check that they make sense

Worked examples

  • new examples will get added
  • NAW to add some descriptinve text to each of th bullet list points
  • SD to add some examples on STP - in particular the CTIP script

  • issue of helper applications - which ones should we highlight

by end Feb need a full release science set of pages. these will be the current beta docs moved over to www.astrogrid.org

  • NAW will clone the current pages to the draft www.astrgrid.org site to form the basis of the science pages. top level intro page ill need a major edit - as is currently aimed at beta testers.

NAW to send out to these places to get on their talk schedules. In general AL or NAW to give talk, helped as appropriate by others. Agreed to have a single point of contact in organising these AG talks.

Re future workshops - lets wait for some user demand - then organise some sort of themed workshop to support particular science areas - e.g. hi-z gals, cmb, gal structure, etc etc .

Also - AG scientists can work on science topics using AG tools and submit these to specific science conferences.
