A table of useful HTML symbols when writing mathematical formulae, in Wiki or other HTML pages:

Mozilla and IE              Mozilla only
Symbol Encoding   Symbol Encoding
(non-breaking space)     ∗
£ £   ∧
€   ∨
» »   ≥
« «   ≤
° °   ′
± ±   ″
× ×   ⊗
÷ ÷   ⁄
…   ∴
•   ⋅
² ²   ≠
³ ³   ≈
½ ½   →
α α   ⇒
β β   −
μ μ   ∫
π π   √
σ σ   ∞
Σ Σ   ∑

Many other symbols work and one can extrapolate from these, for example for arrows pointing in other directions. All lower-case Greek letters work, but for some reason Mozilla only shows a few upper-case Greek letters.

For a more extensive list see http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/entities/.
