1. RegistryQuery for potential BrownDwarfs located in Galactic Clusters

    Need to find Catalogues (information about one object may come from several catalogues) which contain:

    • with Identification by
      • Position
      • (or) ID resolvable by SIMBAD
    • (and) with Classification as
      • Galactic objects
        • (which are) Stellar
          • (and are a) Galactic Stellar Cluster
          • (or) Galactic Stellar Cluster Member

  2. DataSetQuery/Evaluation to select Galactic Stellar Clusters
    A list of catalogues is passed from the step 1. RegistryQuery results and values of required quantities are extracted and stored in MySpace. As there will often be more than one catalogue in MySpace they will need Registry type meta-data. For this Science Case all the MySpace catalogues will contain Registry-level meta-data as follows:
    • Milky Way Objects
    • with Identification by
      • Position
      • (and optionally) ID resolvable by SIMBAD
    At this step we add
    • (optional) Epoch
    • Classification
    • Cone Search solid angle information

  3. RegistryQuery for existing proper motion and distance measurements This is to enable a Cone Search of DataSets containing
    Metadata for all subsequent Registry Queries (or more likely keep list of DataSets meeting requirement)
    • Sky coverage
    • (or) recognised ID
    • No classification
    • (or) Classification as
      • Galactic objects
    Metadata for this query
    • Proper motion
    • (and/or) Distance

  4. DataSetQuery/Evaluation to get definative list of cones: MySpace metadata for Registry use as per 2. plus:
    • Proper Motion
    • Distance

  5. RegistryQuery to enable colour-colour selection: At this stage probably use MySpace list of catalogues from 4., Metadata from 4. if additional nDim DataSets are sought and additional metadata for Query:

    • Photometry (accurate flux density measurements)
      • (in) Optical/IR frequency band
        • (in one or more of the) optical/IR sub-bands
          • I
          • R
          • K

  6. DataSetQuery/Evaluation to perform ColourCut Metadata as from 4. plus
    • Photometry (accurate flux density measurements)
      • (in) Optical/IR frequency band
      • Optical/IR Band Colour
    • Doppler Velocity

  7. DataProcessing for Sample Selection: Metadata as from 6. plus
    • User-allocated classification

  8. RegistryQuery to enable Proper Motion measurement Metadata from 4. plus
    • Position measurements
    • (at) Epoch
        Possible restrictions:
      • Position accuracy greater than x
      • (and/or) in Optical frequency band (or etc.)

  9. DataSetQuery/Evaluation to obtain proper motions Metadata as from 7. plus
    • Proper Motion

  10. DataProcessing for sample selection based on proper motions Metadata as 9.

  11. RegistryQuery for information about composition of sample: Metadata from 4. plus
    • Information about chemical composition
    • or Spectra
      • in relevant Frequency bands e.g.
        • Radio
        • IR
        • Optical
        • UV

  12. DataSetQuery/Evaluation to select on basis of chemical composition Metadata as from 10. plus
    • Chemical composition

  13. DataProcessing sample ranking based on results so far

  14. DataSet selection/extraction
    • The DataSets found at stages 1, 3, are now examined to see if they contain object classifications including 'Brown Dwarf'. If so, this list is also returned to see how it compares with the list of objects found using the workflow above.
