Welcome to the PS1 web

This is a wiki web about information about the PS1 Astrogrid Tools Call.

Available Information

Priority list for implementation

  1. VOEvent creation for static transient sources found in the IPP/MOPS of PS1
  2. Astronomical catalogue cross-matching e.g. association with galaxies and known variables
  3. Website publication listing VOEvent packages and creation of thumbnail images of the PS1 discovery images, difference images,
  4. Ability to upload spectral data and classification information.
  5. Create links through astroscope to archive multi-wavelength images.
  6. An authenticated/authorized system to control data access and public release
  7. Develop a standard to represent time series data and multiple transient events that are the same object (e.g. flaring AGN, SNe with pre-explosion giant outbursts)

Milestones to reach by end of March 2008

  • Complete the cross-matching code - and ensure that 50,000 queries can be done in less than ~5hrs. We are expecting ~50,000 transient candidates per night. Will multiple CPUs and multiple processing be required to meet this target? Guidance and decision required.
  • Develop the code to merge all matches that come out of the cross-match search, and construct "decision trees" to pick the "most likely" (Dave will provide input on the science side - astrogrid to implement this code). This is the "merged and filtered" list.
  • Structure the link between the output of the "merged and filtered lists" and the database and Dave's webpage listings
  • Decide on the role of the "Publisher" in the workflow
  • Database - write the information from the merged and filtered lists to a database. What type of database, and how do we install at QUB ?
  • Aim to have a full dry run with real supernovae, and real vairable stars/novae that are reported in the IAUCs - can we run them right through the system and generate the correct classification ?
  • Contact Alasdair - generating VOevent packages (this to be done on longer timescale).

Documents

Catalogues

  • MOPS-50000.fits: 50,000 sources (AGN, variable stars, SNe and artifacts) that can be used to represent one night's output from MOPS.
  • MOPS-5000.fits: A reduced catalogue of 5,000 sources used to represent the output from MOPS.
  • MOPS-500.fits: A reduced catalogue of 500 sources used to represent the output from MOPS.
  • TEST.fits: A test catalogue of 1 source.
