The Virtual Observatory is the name given to the concept of making all data, however formatted and wherever located, accessible to astronomers. A number of projects worldwide have begun to realise this vision. Most have come together to for the International VO Alliance (IVOA). One of the founding members of this organisation and a leading UK e-Science project, is AstroGrid.
