VISTA Kilo Degree Survey in the Infrared
PI:
Will Sutherland
The VISTA counterpart to the VST KIDS survey.
New acronym now either
VALKIRI or
VIKING.
The KIDS survey will cover
1500 deg^2 in u,g,r,i
divided in two stripes (NGP, centred on equator ; SGP, centred on Dec = -30).
The matching VISTA survey will cover (almost) all of these stripes in Z,Y,J,H, Ks with
~ 400s exposures per band. Science goals include
- z > 7 quasars and brown dwarfs
- Improved photometric redshifts for KIDS galaxies
- z > 1 clusters
- Stellar masses for KIDS galaxy-galaxy lenses
- Galaxy morphology vs environment
- Distant MW halo stars
- Targets for future baryon-wiggle z surveys
- GALEX MIS and AKARI synergy
Detailed survey parameters are currently undergoing tuning and suggestions are welcome.
Update - draft proposal now available at link below.
