ScienceProblem: BoundaryLayerStructureAndStability

PrimaryActor:

Solar Terrestrial Physicist

ScienceGoal:

Understand the structure, stability and evolution of the major magnetospheric boundary layers.

DataSets:

Cluster, EISCAT

ProblemDescription:

This study will investigate the structure and evolution of the major boundary layers, e.g. the magnetopause and the plasma sheet boundary layer (diagram). Particular attention will be placed on the particle distributions found in these regions, and the correlation of the distributions with waves and structures observed. One of the objectives is to shed some light on the transport processes across the boundary. EISCAT conjugate studies, where possible, will be undertaken.

GoodStyle: Please add comments below. This area should be used for refinement of the above document. If you want to ask questions or start a dialogue with the author, please use (or create) a topic in the Science Problems Forum. For other ScienceProblems, refer to the ScienceProblemList.
Author: Once the refinements here and comments in the forum die down, perhaps you could rewrite the problem, incorporating the comments and refinements.

Further details need to be added. Availability of Cluster data may be an issue.
