Understand the structure, stability and evolution of the major magnetospheric
boundary layers.
Cluster, EISCAT
This study will investigate the structure and evolution of the major boundary
layers, e.g. the magnetopause and the
plasma sheet boundary layer (
diagram). Particular
attention will be placed on the particle distributions found in these regions,
and the correlation of the distributions with waves and structures observed.
One of the objectives is to shed some light on the transport processes across
the boundary. EISCAT conjugate studies, where possible, will be undertaken.
