Determine the abundance of selected line species during flare and other spectra
Spectral data, e.g. from Yohkoh-BCS, SOHO-CDS, SOHO-SUMER
Flares:
Emission lines from highly ionized species are only seen when the plasma is very hot during flares. e.g.
CaXIX from Yohkoh-BCS.
Other:
Lines emitted at low temperatures can be seen from normal active region emission. Time interval less critical - probably want to avoid flares.
Find flares. Select flares with enough minutes of observation for reasonable statistics - these should be after the peak of the flare in the decay phase. Refine selection by ensuring that they are clean (single source) and with good amount of continuuum emission around the resonance line (BCS line shifts back and forwards for sources of different locatiuon and the amount of continuum varies).
Finding flares and those with observations in decay phase easier - not sure about the rest - usually done by eye...
